About Me
Hi! I’m Megan, a psychotherapeutic counsellor working with children, young people, and adults.
About Me
I am a children and young person’s psychotherapeutic counsellor trained at the Northern Guild in Newcastle and have experience working therapeutically with women too. My training was integrative, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Person-Centred, and creative therapy models. I am a registered member of the BACP, receive regular supervision, and am committed to ongoing professional and personal development.
I bring a creative and nature-based approach to therapy. I’ve completed Outdoor Therapy training with the Venture Trust and am a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader (NESOLG). I have led women’s therapeutic forest sessions and run forest school programmes for children and teenagers. I also have experience supporting adults from diverse backgrounds and cultures with their mental health through a therapeutic community garden. I hold Paediatric and Forest School First Aid certification (ATNE) and have an enhanced DBS check.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor with Acorns Project, a trauma-informed charity supporting families impacted by domestic abuse. I also have experience working as a school counsellor with Place2Be in a Newcastle primary school.
My Background
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in a variety of creative and educational roles. My background spans the Arts—with a focus on writing and literature—as well as work in the environmental sector and in education. I’ve taught English as a Foreign Language in China and Switzerland, and worked as a Learning Support tutor.
Raised internationally, I bring a global and multicultural perspective to my practice. This breadth of experience helps me connect with clients from diverse backgrounds in a meaningful and empathetic way.
Academic and Creative Life
I hold an MA in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the London School of Journalism, and an MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of Glasgow. I’ve also pursued a wide range of creative courses in areas such as children’s illustration, tapestry, sewing, printmaking, papercraft, clay, painting, and drawing.
I’m also a musician, and play the violin, piano, and harp. Creativity is at the heart of who I am, and it’s something I bring into my therapeutic work—offering clients an imaginative and expressive space for healing, exploration, and growth.
